Safe checks you can do in a few minutes, without opening equipment. They help you describe the problem; the visit confirms the cause.
- Where it’s mounted: Direct sun, a vent blowing on it, or a lamp or TV nearby can make it misread the room.[25]
- Fan setting: Set the fan to AUTO, not ON.[26]
- Mode, setting and batteries: Set it to Cool, 3–5 °F below room temperature. If the screen is blank, replace the batteries.[1]
