Check it yourself first

Between visits: three quick AC checks.

Safe checks you can do in a few minutes, without opening equipment. They help you describe the problem; the visit confirms the cause.

  1. Air filter: Check it monthly during peak season and change it when it looks dirty.[17][2]
  2. Outdoor unit: Keep plants and debris at least 2 feet away, and look for dirt building up on the coil fins.[11]
  3. Drip pan and drain: Make sure the drip pan under the indoor unit isn’t holding water and the drain line flows freely.[18]
